Partners

We are not alone in this fight. Organizations across the province are stepping up to protect the Eastern Slopes. Learn more about them below.

ALBERTA HIKING ASSOCIATION

The Alberta Hiking Association advocates on behalf of Alberta hikers and acts as a clearinghouse for information, concerns and ideas around issues related to hiking trails, their construction, maintenance and accessibility. Whether you hike, cross country ski or snowshoe, the Alberta Hiking Association works to give you a voice as a stakeholder at meetings with industry and government. Together, we create a strong voice for Alberta's hiking fraternity.

CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF PHYSICIANS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

CAPE takes action to enable health for all by engaging with governments, running campaigns, conducting research, and drawing media attention to key issues.

We collaborate with other organizations, nationally and internationally, to work effectively and build power together. We support physicians to be advocates for healthier environments and ecosystems.

CASTLE-CROWN WILDERNESS COALITION

Since 1990, Castle-Crown Wilderness Coalition is proud to be a steward of the Castle Area. CCWC supporters have long been the ‘eyes and ears’ of the Castle and through our work we have always strived for protection, improved biodiversity, effective monitoring and reporting, a clean watershed and removal of invasive plants.

Our vision, ‘A world in which wilderness survives so that wild lands may thrive, and future generations can know their natural beauty and diversity’ is what we believe to be the best outcome for all Albertans. Our mission, ‘The establishment, restoration and environmental protection of the Castle wilderness as a viable wilderness with the Crown of the Continent ecosystem’ guides our actions as we steward the land and advocate for the wild area.

LOVE YOUR HEADWATERS

The goal of Love Your Headwaters is to protect Alberta’s headwaters and the landscapes that provide them. We rely on the headwaters of the Rocky Mountains for 90% of Alberta's drinking water. Fed by rain, snow, and glacier ice, these landscapes absorb, clean, and release our water into streams and river systems — eventually reaching our homes in communities across the province.

Our mountains provide this vital service for free, but Alberta has protected less than half of its headwater landscapes. More recently, the opening up of 53,000 square kilometres of the Eastern Slopes to coal mining poses increasing threats to the region. We can do better.

CLIMATE HUB OF SOUTHERN ALBERTA

The Climate Hub of Southern Alberta (CHSA) is a multi-generational, grassroots organization that is focused on overcoming the challenges associated with climate sustainability. Our goal is to educate on the lasting environmental damage and air pollution, advocate for new careers and investment opportunities in climate solutions, and assist Alberta and its youth towards a sustainable future.

YELLOWSTONE TO YUKON CONSERVATION INITIATIVE

The Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative is a joint Canada-U.S. not-for-profit organization and the only organization dedicated to securing the long-term ecological health of this entire region.

Our vision is an interconnected system of wild lands and waters stretching from Yellowstone to Yukon, harmonizing the needs of people with those of nature.
